The Black Swan

A black swan is an extremely unlikely, difficult-to-predict, and yet inevitable event that carries huge consequence. Google's success was a black swan; so was 9/11. According to Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans are at the root of almost every aspect of life. We don't acknowledge their existence until it's too late. Humans are hardwired to learn specifics when they should be focused on generalities.
