Patty and Walter Berglund are not the perfect neighbors they seemed to be. Though they were the first gentrifiers of old St. Paul, their progressive family values were a façade for their repressed corruption. Their teenage son was exiled from his parent's home after his father had an affair with his stepmother, and Walter took a job working with Big Coal at the expense of his family. As for Richard Katz, Patty Berglund's ex-boyfriend, he remains in the picture because the Berglunds owe him $10,000 for stolen property.
