Naoko, the beautiful young woman in the story, finds that she can't cope with life on campus. She's lonely and miserable. Toru, her boyfriend and friend, is upset and confused by their lost friendship and becomes an outsider on campus. One day Naoko runs into a girl from school whom she remembers fondly from years before. Naoko quickly becomes obsessed with her, as well as with a man who takes care of her dog. Toru watches helplessly as his love for Naoko is steadily replaced by his interest in the new woman and being involved in the romance between Naoko and another man.
