Takeaways
Description
Hope Mirrlees's 1926 classic fantasy, Lud-in-the Mist, was the only fantasy novel she ever wrote. She also wrote a drama play called The Unlit Lamp (1930); a well-received novel titled Madeleine and two other novels: The Counterplot (1924) and, more recently, A Play of Selves (1969). In addition to her published works, Mirrlees had an extensive correspondence with some of the most influential writers of her day including Virginia Woolf, Bertrand Russell and W. B. Yeats. It is believed that Virginia Woolf based the character of Clarissa Dalloway from Mrs Dalloway on Hope Mirrlees.
