The Book of Dust-La Belle Sauvage

When it rains, it pours for Malcolm Polstead. He and his dæmon, Asta, usually overhear nothing more salacious than the Oxfordian gossip. But one night, a spy is discovered in the inn run by Malcolm's father. When she asks the boy to keep his eyes open for her, he sees suspicious characters everywhere: Lord Asriel on a secret mission; agents of the Magisterium; an Egyptian named Coram (with a warning just for Malcolm); and a beautiful woman with an evil monkey as her dæmon. There's only one thing they're all looking for: a girl named Lyra, who was kidnapped when she was just a baby.
