George is a boy. But she thinks she's a girl instead. She's always wanted to be a girl, act like a girl, and be called a girl. But her classmates see her as a boy. And her teacher thinks she's just like the other boys in her class–even if the boys don't act like George does. So George poses as Charlotte, at school and around town, to show everyone why she really wants to be a girl.
