City of Girls

Vivian Morris, a nineteen-year-old from Connecticut, is kicked out of Vassar College after her entire freshman year.   Her parents decide that she should move to Manhattan and live with her aunt Peg, a flamboyant actress who owns the Lily Playhouse in the middle of the city. There Vivian meets an entire group of unconventional people, from fun-chasing showgirls to a sexy male actor, a grand-dame actress, a lady-killer writer, and a no-nonsense stage manager.   These characters—as well as Vivian herself—turn out to be much more than they seem in this coming-of-age story about finding yourself in the world.
