Boy Swallows Universe

Boy Swallows Universe, by the astounding Australian writer Melanie Cheng, is a propulsive and magical novel about daring to love in the face of impossible odds, written with incredible clarity and heart. Told from the perspective of a young boy in 1983 Brisbane, Boy Swallows Universe is a heart-pounding satire about growing up poor and working class in Australia and the near-impossible path to self-discovery. In this brilliant debut novel, Melanie Cheng has written one of the most unforgettable coming of age novels ever told, as well as an outrageous, funny, and unflinching look at life on the fringes of Brisbane’s underworld.
