Big Cats includes the story "Charlotte,” in which a young girl with a broken pelvis spies on her voluptuous neighbor during a hot summer night, setting the tone of irrepressible curiosity and yearning that carries through the rest of the collection. In “Get Away from Me,” David, a bank manager who has a haunted past, deals with the aftermath of an earthquake and tries to overcome his fears when his customer dies in the lobby. Big Cats features two teenage girls pitted against each other in an escalating catfight at the zoo where they work.
