Berlin Noir

For readers looking to try a new mystery series, Philip Kerr’s historical crime novels are a great place to start. MARCH VIOLETS, THE PALE CRIMINAL, and GERMAN REQUIEM are the first three books in the Bernie Gunther series—and each offers a unique and intriguing setting. The writing is superb: “A Chandleresque knight errant caught in insane historical surroundings. Bernie walks down streets so mean that nobody can stay alive and remain truly clean. ”
