When English teacher Jake Epping is grading essays by his GED students, he reads a bizarre essay by janitor Harry Dunning: fifty years ago, Harry survived his father’s bloody massacre of his family with only a sledgehammer injury to one arm. Jake is baffled—but a new mystery arises when Al, the owner of the local diner and Jake's best friend, asks him to take over the mission that has become Al’s obsession—to prevent the Kennedy assassination.
