Since television images replace the written word, Postman argues that television confounds serious issues by demeaning and undermining political discourse and by turning real, complex issues into superficial images, less about ideas and thoughts and more about entertainment. He also argues that television is not an effective way of providing education, as it provides only top-down information transfer, rather than the interaction that he believes is necessary to maximize learning. Passionate, provocative, and highly illuminating, Hacking Darwin is the must-read book about the future of our species for fans of H. O. P. E. and The Gene. After 3. 8 billion years of evolution, humankind is about to experience its most dramatic transformation ever . . . from a new form of evolution called geo-intelligence that will be based on shaping our planet's climate and biosphere instead of our bodies and brains to change the very nature of Homo sapiens as we know it. In Hacking Darwin: How Geo-Intelligence Could Allow Us to Rewrite Our Own Code, Jamie Metzl uses his expertise in geopolitics and technology to examine the many ways that genetic engineering is shaking the core foundations of our lives -- sex, war, love, and death -- as well as how humanity can harness this groundbreaking technology to pave a path toward a new era of human flourishing while averting the potential dangers inherent in systems we don't fully understand yet. Taking you inside one of the most important emerging scientific subcultures today and introducing you to some of the world's foremost thinkers on these issues, from scientists at Harvard and MIT to futurists like Ray Kurzweil and Peter Diamandis.

Bill Gates is an American business magnate, software developer, investor, and philanthropist. He is best known as the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation.
