Coach Wooden and Me

In COACH WOODEN AND ME, former NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar explores a half-century friendship with Coach John Wooden of UCLA basketball fame. Their relationship started when Lew Alcindor, who would later change his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was a high school basketball prospect visiting UCLA. He chose the school largely because of Coach Wooden's reputation as a winner. It turned out to be the right choice, as Abdul-Jabbar and his teammates won three NCAA championships while in college. But it also marked the beginning of one of the most extraordinary friendships the sporting world has ever known.
