Humans have been thinking about the big questions for thousands of years. What's beyond? What happens when we die? Who are we? Daniele Bolelli is a writer, philosopher, and comparative religion professor who looks at our holy books and asks, what if we could start over again? Just write down everything you think is important and don't worry about spelling or facts. And while you're at it, why not throw in some crazy stuff too just to keep things interesting. We need to rethink all of humanity's previously held holy values and beliefs, says Bolelli, so that we can find the solutions we need to the very practical problems that face us: how to live a peaceful life free of guilt and shame—and how to face death without fear. Our worldviews are in desperate need of some housecleaning, he says. And houses need people who aren't afraid to do the hard work.

Create Your Own Religion

In this one-of-a-kind memoir, a writer and martial artist explains how he learned to cope with loss and hardship when his life suddenly fell apart. In the wake of his house burning down, the author lost his job and everything he owned. But it was the death of his wife that nearly destroyed him. Slowly, but surely, he was able to rebuild his life and move forward thanks to the lessons he'd learned in martial arts. The author believes these skills are applicable to anyone suffering from loss or grieving the death of a loved one.
