Karl Marx is a thinker who – more than any other in modern history – saw the whole of humanity. In this selection from his writings, he grapples with the revolutionary upheavals of his time, which he sought to understand and explain. He saw the struggle for liberation as a permanent feature of society, he argued for the primacy of human dignity over the dominance of capital, and he remained optimistic about both humankind and its future.
