Even though her high school counselor told her girls didn’t become scientists, she decided to—and by the time she was in sixth grade, she had already picked up a book that would help spark her interest and get her started. But then, when she came home from school and saw it sitting on her bed . . . Wait, what’s this? It’s nothing like the detective novels I love —no, it’s way different than that. No, it’s even better than that! It’s about the race to discover the code of life. The excitement of that race kept my eyes glued to the pages; I couldn’t stop reading until I thought through every possibility of who might win that race. And when I found out who did win—well, let me tell you, it was a great moment!
