Reginald Jones, former CEO of General Electric, visited Jack Welch's office on December 5, 1981. In the narrative that ensued, Jones told Welch that he had been elected chairman of General Electric. Jack Welch writes about his business management techniques in a book titled Jack: Straight from the Gut; he described it as "the most anticipated business-management book of our time".
