Is There No Place on Earth for Me?

While Susan Sheehan was still a college student, she read about Sylvia Frumkin, a schizophrenic girl who had spent seventeen years in and out of mental hospitals. Intrigued, Sheehan followed Frumkin around for almost a year, talking to her at length and witnessing many of her unusual behaviors. Later, Frumkin told Sheehan the story of her life, and the reporter incorporated the girl's own words into her article.
