Figuring

Figuring explores the human need to find truth through the lives of several historical figures—beginning with Johannes Kepler, who discovered the laws of planetary motion. The novel continues with a cast of artists, writers, and scientists—mostly women, mostly queer--who were catalysts for change in their fields. Among them are Maria Mitchell, who paved the way for women in science; Harriet Hosmer, who did the same in art; Margaret Fuller, whose feminist writings sparked a revolution; and Emily Dickinson, who explored life through poetry.
