Basic Algebra I

These, the first two volumes in a three-part series of works, are a classic text and standard reference on algebraic topics. Nathan Jacobson's works have a philosophical and theoretical bent to them, and they are useful references in addition to being instructional readings. Volume I is all about the fundamentals of set theory, group theory, rings, modules, Galois theory, polynomials, linear algebra, and associative algebra—as well as the rudiments of set theory, group theory, rings, modules, Galois theory, polynomials, linear algebra, and associative algebra. Volume II looks at Lie and Jordan algebras, lattices and Boolean algebras. Exercises--and smart explanations--are sprinkled throughout these works.
