Ensign Andrew Dahl has been assigned to the flagship of the Universal Union, the starship Intrepid. It’s a prestigious posting, and Andrew is thrilled at the prospect of working in its Xenobiology laboratory. But he and his crew mates soon learn that Andrew’s excitement may be misplaced. Rather than participating in a series of scientific studies, they embark on a series of bloody battles with alien forces. Their captain and chief science officer always survive these confrontations, but not everyone else does.
