One True God

Why does Western history look the way it does? Rodney Stark provides a possible explanation for the lasting impact of monotheism on the world. He argues that, if Jews had been polytheists, they would have been like all other peoples who are long since forgotten. If Christians had presented Jesus to the Greco-Roman world as another God, their faith would not have survived. And surely Islam would never have made it out of the desert had Muhammad not removed Allah from the context of Arab paganism and proclaimed him as the only God. According to Stark, monotheism changed everything.
