After the publication of his first novel, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon traveled to Oakland to visit his terminally ill grandfather. Chabon’s grandfather, who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease, had a radical change of personality and became more outgoing than he ever was before. After receiving a large dose of morphine for pain relief, he unveiled a world of secrets and stories the younger man had never heard before.
