The discovery of LSD less than a hundred years ago led to the exploration of human consciousness; scientists believed the drug would help them better understand the relationship between mind and matter. Due to its ability to explore remote frontiers and unmapped areas of consciousness, LSD and MDMA were used to treat anxiety disorders such as PTSD.
