Ace Greenberg, the former chairman of Bear, Stearns and prominent philanthropist, was known throughout the business world for his unique management philosophy. For example, Greenberg asked people to make decisions based on common sense rather than the prevailing trends. He exhorted business executives to avoid the herd mentality. He encouraged them to take control of expenses by being vigilant. Likewise, he told them to run their businesses at the highest level of morality—a good idea because business conducted with integrity is good for society as a whole. Greenberg always returned phone calls promptly and courteously. And he advised CEOs never to believe their own body odor smelled like perfume! Mr. Greenberg’s advice is timeless and true, even today. If you would like to learn more about Ace Greenberg, please purchase his book “Memos from Chairman” from Amazon by clicking here.
