The million copy international bestseller, critically acclaimed and translated into over 25 languages. As influential today as when it was first published, The Selfish Gene has become a classic exposition of evolutionary thought. Professor Dawkins articulates a genes eye view of evolution - a view giving centre stage to these persistent units of information, and in which organisms can be seen as vehicles for their replication. This imaginative, powerful, and stylistically brilliant work not only brought the insights of Neo-Darwinism to a wide audience, but galvanized the biology community, generating much debate and stimulating whole new areas of research. Forty years later, its insights remain as relevant today as on the day it was published. This 40th anniversary edition includes a new epilogue from the author discussing the continuing relevance of these ideas in evolutionary biology today, as well as the original prefaces and foreword, and extracts from early reviews. Oxford Landmark Science books are must-read classics of modern science writing which have crystallized big ideas, and shaped the way we think.

The Selfish Gene

As a young man, Dr. Dawkins studied zoology at Oxford University. After earning his degree, he taught and conducted research at various universities. In the 1970s and 1980s, he turned his attention to genetics. The Selfish Gene was published in 1976. This book popularized the gene-centered view of evolution, which had been proposed years earlier by Dr. Waddington and Dr. Williams, among others. It also contained the word meme, which he coined to express ideas in terms of their evolutionary history. By breaking down ideas into pieces that could be passed from one person to another, memes were a way to study cultural evolution in a scientific manner—similar to how individuals inherit genetic traits from their parents in biological evolution...

River Out of Eden

An elegant, text-only paperback edition of the New York Times bestseller that’s been hailed as the definitive authority on…everything. Richard Dawkins, bestselling author and the world’s most celebrated evolutionary biologist, has spent his career elucidating the many wonders of science. Here, he takes a broader approach and uses his unrivaled explanatory powers to illuminate the ways in which the world really works. Filled with clever thought experiments and jaw-dropping facts, The Magic of Reality explains a stunningly wide range of natural phenomena: How old is the universe? Why do the continents look like disconnected pieces of a jigsaw puzzle? What causes tsunamis? Why are there so many kinds of plants and animals? Who was the first man, or woman? Starting with the magical, mythical explanations for the wonders of nature, Dawkins reveals the exhilarating scientific truths behind these occurrences. This is a page-turning detective story that not only mines all the sciences for its clues but primes the reader to think like a scientist as well.

The Magic of Reality

A preeminent scientist -- and the worlds most prominent atheist -- asserts the irrationality of belief in God and the grievous harm religion has inflicted on society, from the Crusades to 9/11. With rigor and wit, Dawkins examines God in all his forms, from the sex-obsessed tyrant of the Old Testament to the more benign (but still illogical) Celestial Watchmaker favored by some Enlightenment thinkers. He eviscerates the major arguments for religion and demonstrates the supreme improbability of a supreme being. He shows how religion fuels war, foments bigotry, and abuses children, buttressing his points with historical and contemporary evidence. The God Delusion makes a compelling case that belief in God is not just wrong but potentially deadly. It also offers exhilarating insight into the advantages of atheism to the individual and society, not the least of which is a clearer, truer appreciation of the universes wonders than any faith could ever muster.

Joe Rogan is an American comedian and podcast host. He has also worked as a mixed martial arts color commentator, television host, and occasional actor.

The God Delusion

Whether you know it or not, you are an addict. You are addicted to the truth. And once you get a taste of it, you will never be able to do without. The natural history of our own species is as compelling as any story that has ever been told. Richard Dawkins’s long-awaited book is the most honest, accessible and awe-inspiring explanation of evolutionary theory available today. The Blind Watchmaker presents a lucid case against creationism, and in favor of Darwinism as the only solid foundation in the study of life itself.
