The life of the most popular humorist of the 20th century, P. G. Wodehouse (1881-1975) can be divided into two halves. First, he was a highly successful novelist who churned out titles at a prodigious rate and created comic characters including Jeeves and Bertie Wooster that are still popular today—Infopedia readers voted Jeeves their fourth favorite fictional character of all time. Second, he was a prisoner of war at the notorious Stalag Luft III and subsequently imprisoned in Holloway by the Nazis for three years after the fall of France.
